The Question in Final Crisis?

While The Question only received a passing mention in this Newsarama article, the suggestion is that Q (which one?) will make an appearance, and possibly be a “major player”.

NRAMA: …the Human Flame. Oy.

Along those lines, who are some of the other major players, beyond the New Gods and some of the other characters you’ve mentioned?

GM: The Green Lanterns are a big deal in it. The Alpha Lanterns, which I created for Final Crisis and Geoff then developed into the latest Green Lantern, those guys have a big role to play. The Green Lanterns are quite essential to the whole book. Superman and Batman, obviously, are going to be a big deal. Wonder Woman is a big deal.

The Question. Frankenstein. Mary Marvel…we’re going to take what’s been happening to Mary Marvel beyond all acceptable limits. I think fanboys should enjoy that one. There’s going to be a big definitive battle between Supergirl and Mary Marvel. Some seriously badass super-animals…There’s a ton of stuff that I don’t want to go into details about, because it’s too good to spoil! I’d love readers to just come to issue 1 with no real preconceived notion of what they’re going to get (ha!)…

Montoya’s journal traverses dimensions

The journal of Renee Montoya made several appearances across the internet over the past few days. I’ve found at least the following recipients:

Wait…wha?

Yep, that’s right. We here at the world’s greatest (and only) Question fansite got to take part in the mystery with not one, but two Montoya journals. We’re painstakingly chronicling the contents of these journals for the site, and when we’re done with our comparative studies, one of the two will be auctioned off on eBay with the profits going to a comic-related charity.

In other awesome journal-related news, the folks over at ComicBloc have been deputized by the White King Bishop to decipher a code apparently hidden in the pages of the Crime Bible mini-series! And what can the decoder expect as a reward for her or his efforts?

…Stay tuned here in the next few weeks for the answer to that question!

Mysterious journal turns up on Douglas Wolk’s doorstep

Check out the latest from Savage Critic Douglas Wolk:

Despite Countdown, I do like it when artifacts that ought to belong to one world end up in another. Yesterday, Greg Rucka dropped off a document that had come into his possession while he was working on the Crime Bible miniseries (of which the second issue comes out Thursday): Montoya’s Moleskine, a bulging notebook that reminded me a bit of several Dennis Wheatley and J.G. Links volumes. The pocket-sized notebook, besides copious handwritten notes on Montoya’s investigation of the Dark Faith, includes a bunch of inserts

Below is a scan of a telegram sent from Tot to Renee. Best of all, Douglas hints that a copy may turn up on my doorstep as well! More on that if and when it happens!

Wishing Steve a happy 80th

Speaking of Sturdy Steve, he turns 80 years old today! Here’s hoping he has a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, and that the two flavors don’t run together!

To celebrate the momentous occasion, here’s a picture of Mr. A that I drew recently for our forum member of the same name:

Blake Bell Ditko book scheduled for June 2008

Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve DitkoBlake Bell’s comprehensive book on Steve Ditko, “Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko,” to be published by Fantagraphics, now has a release date of June 2008.

The Fantagraphics press release says:

Why will this book appeal to such a broad readership, to those who may not even be comic-book, or Steve Ditko, fans? “For the non-comic-book reader,” says author Blake Bell (author and essayist for the Marvel Comics’ line of Ditko-related Omnibus reprint projects), “we tell the narrative of Steve Ditko, the artist, from humble beginnings in Johnstown Pennsylvania; to the dizzying heights of co-creating Spider-Man; to the spectacular Howard Roark-like determination, and tribulations, in bringing his personal and philosophical vision to a recalcitrant audience. There’s a fantastic, dramatic storyline running through Ditko’s career; the artist having walked away from the Spider-Man franchise (and the billions it was to generate) as it was reaching the height of its popularity. What price did Ditko pay, and what was the impact on his work?”

Comic-book fans have also been waiting for a definitive examination of Ditko the artist; a chance to have the entire artistic scope of his career in one volume. “Fans of Ditko, and comic art, will not be able to put the book down,” says Bell, “as we explode many of the myths surrounding key moments in Ditko’s career, as well as present reams of rare and unpublished Ditko artwork. For the comic art scholar, we also break down the “hows” of Steve Ditko as a great sequential storyteller, dissecting his work in depth for the first time, also with analysis and commentary by some of the most skilled and articulate comic creators of the day.”

No word yet on what Question content will be in the book. Bell has long been the internet’s foremost Ditko scholar, with his great resource Ditko Looked Up.

Rucka Promises More Q! (or is that Q2?)

While vicsage.com’s own Eric Newsom snagged the epic 5 part Greg Rucka interview and copious amounts of Crime Bible goodies, Geoff Johns’ interview with Rucka @ Newsarama gets big the scoop (sorry Eric)…

Geoff: Are there more plans to follow the Question after this? And where to…?

Greg: Absolutely. There are two other projects in the works right now, each designed to build on the previous.

…oh, and he talks about Crime Bible as well.
