Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

That issue was my first exposure to the Question.

Re-read those issues not too long ago... man, were they bad.

(The Deltoids? The Hi-Brows? Did someone just watch The Warriors and think that was an accurate portrayal of youth gangs?)

Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

Yeah, I just reread those issues also. they were so bad.  We all know about Q? "gas", but why were only his fists smoking?  Was this an attempt at action figure like "power punch" action?

Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

Hey! I liked those.

I think it was more that the run of Blue Beetle they were in would definitely reference something like the Warriors over real life. They were very silver age-y and fun.

And hey...you have no problem with a blue bug-related superhero flying a UFO over Chicago, but you take issue with the names of the street gangs he fights?  wink

And the gas from the sleeves was a Ditko thing too. The Q? used it for intimidation purposes....

Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

So is Blue Beetle 4 through 7 worthy of an Ebay purchase, or should I just wait for the on site summaries?

Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

If you think the smoking fists were bad, look at the cover to issue #5.

My local comic store owner put it best: "I don't remember The Question making a habit of Matrix-jumping off of skyscrapers."

Personally, though, I liked the smoking fists; it's a Ditko invention, for one, and it's pretty interesting visually.

Re: Rorschach and Blue Beetle?

Get them if you don't mind a slightly less serious version of The Question; the entire 80's Blue Beetle run is one big, fun, self-aware Silver Age romp. It's got a great sense of humor, and Q? isn't portrayed as too over-the-top or silly or anything, but his appearances aren't nearly as dour as his own series tended to be.

Kind of like his portrayal in the L.A.W. miniseries?

Well, yeah. Suspension of disbelief, y'know?  wink

And c'mon... you have to admit the ending in issue #7 was horrible...

Blue Beetle #8, on the other hand, was and is one of the best issues from the run. Heck, one of the best issues of the era.

Depends why you're buying them -- Vic only appears on the last page of #4.

On the other hand, if you want to see BB mixing it up with Doctor Alchemy, then pick up #4. And get #3 too, because it sets up the fight. And #8, just because it's good.

Does that help?  big_smile
