Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

I just had a really weird idea. Would anyone here be interested in working on a short multi-artist comic? We could work collaborate on the story (and then someone who was up to it could write up a script) and then each of us could draw one or two pages to it?

I think the end product could be a really cool way to celebrate the new year!

Thoughts:
-Each page could be just one picture instead of multiple panels, allowing each person to focus on giving it there all and producing some classy art.
-Each page could be done using anything (except for old Question art). Action Figures, Pen and Pencil, Digital coloring (or digital everything).
-Hoo hoo! I like where this is going.
-The best reference I can think of, of what I'm trying to describe is the final Ultimate Marvel Team-up (the USM special)

I'm game.  8)

I could either do scripting and/or contribute a digital image.

I'm down. I'd be happy to write or draw, although...well, my writing is worlds better of the two.

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

Thank you for fixing "A" to "An" in the subject title wink

Alright...I got something, AN idea.  I couldn’t sleep last night, so this floated out of my head while pondering the suggested group project...

25 sentences (or fragments) that describe the Question.
Each sentence is for one page, one splash page of art each.

All from different versions of Q...Charlton, O’Neil, JLU, Veitch, 52.

Anyone who wants to be involved in the project would just need to pick a line, and create what they feel the sentence is about or captures the mood of it the best...

Question the Existential Splash

Who am I?
That question is the very essence of my existence.
I am a man with no face.
A man who’s past is lost like a puff of smoke.
For the public, I am a journalist.
A sounding board of right and wrong.
To some, I am an idealist.
I am a voice to un-muttered philosophies.
I am a faceless visage of hope and justice.
I am violence.
A non-tempered weapon struggling to remain sheathed.
To my allies, I am a crack pot.
A truth seeker wound too tight.
Some envision me as something mystic.
A urban shaman listening to the city’s pleas.
To most, I am an annoyance...
To those who partner with me,
And to those we fight.
I am a victim.
A victim of my lack of origin.
A victim of the tobacco industry's statistics.
A victim of nature’s cruel fate.
Who am I?
With a touch of Rodor’s gas,
I am the Question.

For some visualisation examples, the line “To those who partner with me,” (in the context of being an annoyance) - I would show Vic interrupting Montoya in bed.  (Someone will have fun depicting that, I’m sure)

For the line “An non-tempered weapon struggling to remain sheathed.”, I envision Vic training with Richard Dragon.

“A truth seeker wound too tight.” would be a JLU shot.

and so on...

So what do you guys think?
Edits and alterations are welcome,
as well as a complete dumping on this idea.

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

Let's do this!

I only have one major suggestion (and a very small one) about is "With a touch of Rodor’s gas, " I think it would be cooler if it went straight from "Who Am I?" to "I am the Question."

Also what if "tabacco industry" was changed to "industry?" (just a thought)

Could just be me.

Let's get down to business and each choose one or two pages to do. Also we need some kind of constant size format if we want to compile this once it is done (I guess if we compile this we could make the needed adjustments then).

Page prefence-wise I'd like to do one of the "Who am I?" pages. Prehaps I could do the first and last page? If someone has their heart set on those I'd gladly do "A truth seeker wound too tight." instead....hurm that gives me a cool idea.

Well what do you guys want to do.

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

I'm glad to read that you like this....after I posted it, I was a little worried that I jumped all over your idea and dominated it...especially after re-reading the 'lets collaborate on an idea" part.  my bad :?

Your two suggested changes don't bother me...how about we let who ever chooses those pages to do keep or alter the line as they see fit?  That can go for pretty much any of the sentences, just as long as it doesn't change the context of the next line or so.

I don't mind losing the "Rodor's gas" line, but I figured it was a good excuse to do a nice smokey pic...plus it made a nice total of 25 pages.  If no one claims it, it's out.

Stake your claim on sentences, and one of us will make an official "CLAIMED BY _____" tally post that will be edit updated to keep track and easy reference. (I could add such a feature to the bottom of my post above with the story)

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

All this sounds great. We could always do a double page spread for one line to bring the count back to 25 if that page doesn't get claimed.

Additionally why don't we do lettering after all the pictures are complete. I could easily throw the lettering and caption boxes onto the images in photoshop. That way the text is legible to everyone.

Oh! Cover page? Maybe a bunch of us could work together on it?

One more thing before I make claim two sentences....

I am a faceless visage of hope and justice.

Thought it said Vic Sage...heh..... lol

Sentence Claims:
1. "A truth seeker wound too tight. "
2. Either "Who am I?" pages
3. If nobody else has a idea for this page, I'd like to do it too (but I don't want to hog pages, especially this one)"I am the Question."

I think I was editing this in the post above as you were posting...

make the art (or scan of art) 768 wide X 1024 high (pixels) in jpg or bitmat format
all pages will be lettered after they are submitted to keep clarity and consistancy (in case project is resized as well)

hey ? ...maybe this thread should have the title changed to something along the lines of "sequential group art project" so more forum members find it...

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

I think I actually have enough confidence in my art at this point to submit one.

I'll gladly do "to those who partner with me", unless I can't find a scanner within a reasonable amount of time, at which point I'll relinquish my claim.

I'm 3/4's of the way through my first one already. It is, in the words of Paris Hilton, hot.

And Ditko-flavored.

Actually, upon further thought, I don't think that particular page should be anything but Q bursting in on Montoya, and I don't think I could do that one justice.

Here, I'll give that one up, and lemme think of another good one I can do. Sorry about being difficult, but I want this thing to go swimmingly, you know?

Should we submit these as we finish, or hold onto them? Is there a deadline?

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

well....

hurm.

I don't have a deadline in mind, since this is a busy time of year for lots of people, and you can't rush art.

I'd say post a small version of them here as you are happy with them, but submit the full sized version to, well, you Eric, so they can be hosted here and be saved for lettering by one of us at some point.

I think as more art shows up here in the thread, it will be inspiring to those looking to get involved or needing motivation.

Once it's all lettered, how do we want to present the final product?

Sneak peaks are good 8)

oh wait, the Cranberries are on the radio...

In your heeeaa-ed?
ZOMBIE !
ZOMBIE !!
ZOMBIE !!!

sorry 'bout that...what were we talking about again?

oh right...
Flash1087, why don't you take a shot at the line you originally selected, here's an inspirational pic (for ARTISTIC PURPOSES ONLY  ):

if you still don't want to draw it, that's cool too, just let me know again, and I'll remove your claim....
...but do you know how much porn I had to surf through just to find a noir-ish pic like that with the frank miller blinds lighting???  Google Image search brings up some....INTERESTING stuff

Re: Who is the Question? - Sequential Group Art Project

Awesome!

1. I'll change the title [Edit- or Eric could]

2. Let's put all of this together as a PDF (I was going to suggest publishing it through Cafepress when I realized that Eric, does not own the copyright on The Question no matter how much I think he does).

3. Eric, AWESOME PAGE! What did you use to color it?

4. Deadlines. How about we play it by ear and just let everyone work at the speed that they feel comfortable at and see how that goes. But I will say this, if I don't get a completed copy of this on my desk by tomorrow, you're all fired! Ahh! *insert J. Jonah Jameson rant here*
