Question Custom Figures

Hi-
I like this site a lot and I hope to be able to contribute to it...
First of all, I'm new here, and I wanted to show a custom animated Question figure that I made to go with the mattel JLU line:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/j3h/DC%20Animated/questioncustom.jpg

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/j3h/DC%20Animated/jludisplay1.jpg

I also have modified the DC Direct figure of Q to give him a trench coat:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/j3h/DC%20Direct/DC%20Direct%20Back%20Alley%20Brawl/bar11QUESTIONvsDEADSHOT.jpg

The Question also appears in a serialized Batman photo story I am currently working on (currently on part 18 and plan on running to 21),
which is displayed on several different forums...there is a link to one of them in my Sig...I hope you check it out 8)

If anyone else has Question figures, show 'em off!  I'd love to see others

Re: Question Custom Figures

Hey guys!
Eric- Sure you can use my pics...if you want I can snap some additional shots.  (I have another Q in the works too).

I have a question for you (no pun intended) concering the fan art contest...If i took artsy pictures of action figures are they alowed to be entered?

?- Thanks for checking out Murder in Gotham...it's up to part 18 now and 19 should be up before the end of the week.

Flash- The Game proposal is great!  I certainly would play it.  A few more unlockables could be Q's various looks through 52 so far.  Which figure (or was it the Murder in Gotham series?) did you want to know how it was done?

Give me a day or so to get you "uncluttered" shots of the animated and DC direct Question figures

recipes:
animated:
Mattel batman animated Two Face body (with legs slightly shortened)
JLU sumperman head with sculpty "no face"
Toy Island Robocop villian "Pudface" hat
modern TMNT "agent Bishop" trench coat (length shortened)
SW Lushros Dofine's circuit board accessory as "cadmus clue" in hand (to give the two face coin hand something to do one the coin is cut out)

DC Direct:
DC Direct Question figure with X2 Cyclops trenchcoat.
fist hand drilled to hold lead pipe accessory (origin unknown...from wwe figure?)

Re: Question Custom Figures

Ooookay...so I lied. I had to grade papers last night, so no updates.

We'll try again tomorrow night. In the meantime, if anyone has links to custom figures, post them here. I've already got a bunch, but you guys probably run in different cyber-circles than I do.

Re: Question Custom Figures

Eric-
Feel Free to use these on this site where ever...just credit them to j3h wink

JLU animated custom Question:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/j3h/DC%20Animated/j3hJLUcustomQUESTION4.jpg

This is DC Direct's unaltered classic Question from a couple of different angles/lighting on the "Murder in Gotham" set:

And finally these shots are of my customised DC Direct Question, giving him a trench coat, a weapon and a new paintjob:

I would punch a baby if it would get me one of those Nite Owl and Rorschach toys. Wasn't there an official DC Rorschach figure at one point?

Wow. I'm very impressed by all of it, J3h. Figures aren't my thing, but I can certainly appreciate the amount of effort and love that has gone it to it. Awesome work tongue

There was suppose to be toys of all of them but something (namely Alan Moore) came up.

Oh, and because I didn't see it earlier due to my lust for any more pictures of your JLU figure, I thank you sincerely for the kind words about my game proposal. Really. I appreciate it.

Re: Question Custom Figures

This is the latest Question custom that I've made (to be used in my Murder in Gotham photostory)

The smoke fx was produced by a candle in front of the figure...the coolest is when the smoke actually made a question mark over the figure's head as seen in the third pic -NO PHOTSHOPING AT ALL 8) -didn't even see it till the image was on screen.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/j3h/DC%20Direct/TheQuestionByJ3H5.jpg

This figure was created using a DC Direct Hellblazer figure with a DC Direct Question's mask & hat.

Again, if you would like to add these to the custom gallery or use the pics anywhere else on the site, it's cool by me 8)

Re: Question Custom Figures

Wow. The Question mask seems like a pretty decent fit on the Hellblazer toy, did you have to do anything special to rig it on there?

Re: Question Custom Figures

yeah, I did...I had to cut off the top of his head and his whole face to make the mask/hat fit lol  I'm not thrilled with the way it looks from behind (the back of the head comes a little too far towards the back of the hat brim)

I think my next attempt (If I feel I need to try again) will be to swap a vic sage head onto the hellblazer body, but that will require some serious neck surgery.

When is your 'Murder In Gotham' sotry going to be completed?

I just posted part 20 and it is going to run a total of 23 chapters...The next part should be posted on thursday, but I'm going to be away from friday to weds, so the remaining two parts will be after that.   The photo of the Question with the question mark posted above is actually the fist pic of part 21 8)

Re: Question Custom Figures

Certainly I'll put these up on the customs page!

And I'm looking forward to the end of the story with baited breath (whatever that means)!

Re: Cutting Constantine's head off: Tim Bruckner, in the note he sent me to put on the DC Direct page wrote: "DCD was still in its infancy regards manufacturing capabilities and so the "mask" had to be thicker than it might be now resulting in his head having to be slightly undersized to make the application of the mask in keeping with the proportion to his body."

So that's why. Vic Sage has a little head.

Re: Question Custom Figures

Absolutely fantastic work, sir. The ending had me going, and I love how you wrote The Question along his Veitch/Edwards persona (using big words, referencing the city 'speaking' to him).

Any chance you'd want to sell that kitbashed Question/Hellblazer figure?  lol

It's funny, that you mention how I wrote Q...I'll admit I didn't pay any attention to the Question (other than Cry for Blood)  till his awesome appearances on JLU...that hooked me on the character.  I bought the back issues of the veitch series and when I scripted Murder in Gotham, and I pulled from JLU, Cry for Blood, and that mini series for writting the character and coming up with his place in the plot.

While shooting MiG, I bought a complete run of the O'Neil/Cowan run (1-36, and the two annuals), AND THEN realized how different the character was (and now it made sense why in 52 he's different than the Mini)...I wasn't sure if I should rewrite him in MiG or leave as is.  I opted to stick with what I originally planned since that is the first impression of the character I had, and what got me to check out more. (I do think I like the weirder versions best) The original DC run and Cry for Blood did cement in the brief reference to Richard Dragon at the end   8)

now I have to get Green arrow annual 3 and the Question quarterly run (and Question Returns)  If I get my hands on the pre DC question stuff, I'm sure I'll be shocked again at how different the character was, judging from what I've read on this site.

And sorry...I just can't part with the Q custom.  If you do make one for yourself, two things I would do differently: 1)the hellblazer body is short compaired to current DC Direct offerings and not all that articulated (especially the lack of leg movement)...a Commish Gordon body might make a better base.  2)don't use the hellblazer head...it will take some neck work, but swapping with the Vic head is probably a better way to go.

Eric-
At one point very early in the plotting stages, I was going to end it with the Question did it, but very quickly I realized that just wouldn't fly and I knew if I was reading the story, I wouldn't like that either.  But keeping that line of thinking and reworking it did lead to some good forshadowing and a pretty nifty twist or two  8)
