The Question and Royal Dinsmore are saved from being burned alive by the fury of the tornado. The Huns panic as it first touches down, and a motorcycle rips through a window taking out the leader Billy.
While Vic battles the storm, Myra and her staff take refuge in the basement of City Hall. At KBEL, the transmitter quits functioning. The weatherman hysterically steps out into the storm to yell out warnings to the citizens and is swept away into the telephone wires.
Vic survives the storm and awakens the next morning feeling refreshed. He learns that Myra lost the election by one vote. He curses himself because he forgot to vote -- his could have at least tied the election.
Vic goes out to get statements from the loser, but Myra is unavailable. Next, he seeks out Dinsmore. He finds the winner as they pull his dead body from the river.
With Dinsmore dead Myra becomes the duly elected mayor of Hub City. As she gives her acceptance speech, however, her husband, the former Mayor Wesley Fermin, shoots her in the stomach.
